What Government Incentives are Available?
Government solar power rebates and incentives available change all the time. Wherever possible we will take the available rebates as a point of sale discount, to make your solar power investment as affordable as possible. Other than signing our paperwork, we look after the STC process so you do not have to worry!
How Solar Works
Here is a basic overview on how grid connected solar power systems work:
1. During the day when the sun is shining light falling onto your solar panels is converted into DC electricity.
2. This DC electricity is sent to a solar power inverter which converts this DC electricity into AC electricity.
3. The solar inverter then feeds this AC electricity into your properties switchboard.
4. This electricity is then used to power your property!
5. Any power being produced that is surplus to your requirements will be sent back through your synergy meter to the street to be used wherever it is required in your local area.

Redback Solar Smart Hybrid System
A recent installation of this Redbacktech Smart Hybrid System consists of 7.2kWh of battery storage and an 8.14kW solar array!
Our customer wanted a system that not only benefits them when the sun is shining but would also power their nighttime usage and provide a backup when there is a power outage.
Solar Smart Meter / Inverter Consumption Meter
We are NOT talking about your Synergy/Western Power meter, which is also often called a 'smart meter'.
Inverter Consumption Meters looks like this:-
Do you require an inverter consumption meter to be installed with your inverter?
In short "no" - but there are benefits to having one installed!
What does it do?
They measure the flow of electrical current into, out of, and around your home and report it back to the solar inverter.
When you look at the Solar Inverter Smartphone App or web browser you see four items listed:
The solar production produced (you get this one anyway, consumption meter or not)
how much of that solar power you have used up in the house
how much of that solar you have exported to Synergy for a Feed in Tariff payment
how much electricity you have bought from Synergy
And later, if you purchase a hybrid 'solar and battery' inverter, you will also see the battery state of charge.
In fact, one of the most valuable benefits of having a consumption meter installed is that it will not be a guessing game later when you decide to install a battery. You will know exactly how much battery storage will be the most cost effective for your home.
Whilst a smart meter does not affect the production produced by the system it does however allow you to better manage your power generated.
Let us look at an example of a simple domestic house
If you have a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer and on your roof you have a 6.6kW array with a 5kW inverter on the wall. You can look on your Solar Inverter Smartphone App and can see you are generating 4kW.
As a dishwasher, washing machine and dryer are around 2kW per machine, to maximise our solar production we can only assume that you can run two appliances as two appliances equals 4kw.
With a smart meter we can see the actual consumption of the loads in real time! As the appliances do not always run at max power depending on cycles running you can look at the production, consumption and export to determine if you can run that third appliance.
